Power Extreme by weremole Power Extreme by weremole
A reimagining of the Centurions done while waiting for my phone to charge last night.

The Centurions where an 80's cartoon and toy property. In Sweden it aired in the 90's as a fill-in show on Cartoon Network. I remember watching it and thinking "There HAS to be toys for this, it's so cool" and if there ever was in Scandinavia they where long gone.

Anyway. The Centurions are a task force that can beam down equipment from a space station that connects to their powersuits. As the tagline goes "Man and machine, power extreme".

There have been similar lines and play patterns but no actual retake of the concept. It was a Kenner property so Hasbro owns it now anyway.

In this I decided to give Crystal (the girl) some equipment of her own. I imagine the boosters and gun can connect to her and Lucy the orangutang can get the hoverboard.

Marker, signboard pen. Finished and colored digitally.

I remembered this cartoon from back when I was a child, but couldn't recall the name (we probably had some lame polish translation, which had nothing to do with the original title, anyway). Now, thanks to you I finally can find it :D

I feel your pain, the show aired in the UK around 88/89 but by that time the toys had come and gone, so I never even knew they existed till I googled for Centurions about 10 years ago. Because of similarities to other properties of that era (such as Master of the Universe, MASK and GI Joe) I don't think the toys were that popular, but I loved the show.

Another obscure show that I wonder if the toys made it to Scandinavia was Bionic 6, we had the toys locally for about 3 weeks (it seemed) while the show was on for about a year before disappearing forever. Again I thought the show was great, but have absolutely no memory of the toys.

sorry to hear that, from what ive seen you didnt miss much, one of those Big idea, poor application. but hay try ebay, maybe can import some cheap ones? since centurions never got the big cult following like Transformers or even the Smurfs.

Scandinavia...wasnt that where Moomins originated? (no im not a huge moomins fan i heard mentioned once)

so what was it like growing up with it as a notable local product. for us in the UK it was kinda a high quality but slightly odd show (for longest time many thot was a strange japanese import... thank you internet for setting straight) OK saying that made me feel old.

The cartoon was made in Japan and the Finnish original is strange anyway. There are a lot of allegories to adult life and social commentary that flies over the kids heads in the various stories. Not to mention primal fears that we are afraid of regardless since we are human. It started with books, picturebooks and comics. I believe there was even an earlier cartoon.

Even as a kid with the butchered show, i got the feeling that it wanted delve into stuff like that. But apart from light daliances and hints i never really did. (kind scary i was a smart kid... nowaday i am probably no smarter if not dumber. Yeah i figured the animation was animated in japan (was cheap).

So what shows you like as a kid? since Moomins limited topic for me. must ask if true there a Moomin Theme Park.

awww hell yeah NOW You're talking! If there was any kind of revitalization they'd probably do it on their channel Hub, I mean look what they did with the ponies, if they give the property to the right person they could probably make a lot of money off it.

I'm kinda surprised no one has gone for the gritty reboot of this yet. Especially considering every episode reduced some major city to a pile of rubble.
